You'll find reminders of school pride just about everywhere you look in Idalou, and the folks there should display their pride- they have a lot to be proud of.

Idalou High School's Student Council President is Micah Thornton.

She says, "Last year we did a project for a boy who's having a heart transplant and so we raised a bunch of money and we did a talent show, we did a bunch of really cool things for him."

Micah knows her council isn't the only group trying to make a difference in their small community, while showing their school pride too.

Even the cheerleaders do their part to keep up school spirit by painting Wildcat paws down Idalou streets.

But there are a few things besides athletics worth cheering for in Idalou.

    First, Idalou's FFA chapter.

Idalou native, Tatum Gunn, served as the State First Vice President for FFA and she says she's proud to be from Idalou.

"We've brought home several first place banners and state contest banners and so we're very, very proud of that accomplishment," Tatum says.

The University Interscholastic League, or UIL as it's called also turns heads in Idalou.

The team competes in many subjects, including math, science and writing.

Sherry Bigham is in her sixth year as Idalou's UIL coordinator.

She says their academic UIL team has made a name for itself across Texas.

"Across the state, when we go places, when we go somewhere, they'll say they're from Idalou," Sherry says.

So in Idalou, one thing is certain.

The students here want to make a difference, both in their school and in their community.
