A Dallas-based group is giving the Lubbock Independent School District $1,000,000 dollars to start a girls-only school. That school could be open as early as next fall...and folks at L.I.S.D. say it'll provide a great college prep program. But some parents aren't so convinced.

    Wayne Havens, LISD Superintendent:
"I think the opportunities are endless."

    Monique Murry, Mother:
"Actually I am not fond of it."

Lubbock I.S.D.'s Superintendent Wayne Havens says he's excited about their approval of a new all girls school. But some parents think it makes for a hard transition into the real world.

    Murry:
"I like the fact that my daughter has choices and that she has male peers and male teachers because it'll prepare her socially."

But Havens says it's a great option to tailor an education to each student.

"Every student is different and to cookie cutter the process does not produce the most beneficial outcome for your students."

And while some parents say they agree it's nice to have options, they still won't put their daughters in.

    Beth Siggins, Mother:
"I personally kind of more enjoy the co-ed existence because that's more of real world. But at the same time, some people, when I was talking to some friends about it, would prefer their daughters at a single-sex school versus the other so that way they don't have to worry about any of the extra things that might happen along the way."

Some of the kids are nervous for such a major change.

    Siggins:
"When I was talking to some kids about it, the boys were worried, they're like, 'Who's gonna keep us in line?' And the girls are like, 'But what would I do?' Because the girls like to take care of the boys and it kind of keeps a nice balance."

The school will begin with 6th and 7th grade and eventually include high school.
