    Emily

Emily Leonard comes to us from our own backyard. She's a true Texas girl who is thrilled to be working at KAMC. She joined the KAMC team in January 2007 and currently holds the record for the greatest number of snooze button hits in one morning. That’s because Emily is the morning news anchor for "Good Morning Lubbock" and wakes up at 3am. But at 5:30am, you’ll see Emily with a big smile on her face, bringing you the latest and most up-to-date local and national news.

Emily graduated with honors from South Plains College in 2001 and then graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas Tech University in December 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications and a minor in English. She began her career in radio by writing and anchoring local news minutes, but then turned her attention to public relations and news marketing. She managed the PR for several Lubbock businesses and nonprofit organizations, but television news quickly caught her eye.

Emily worked at KLBK as the weekend anchor and reporter until moving to the KAMC morning show. She’s covered several of Lubbock’s biggest stories. Emily was there when law enforcement officials identified the remains of Joanna Rogers from the Lubbock Landfill. She was also there when rescue searchers discovered the body of Kay Harrelson near Shallowater. But one story impacted Emily’s life the most. In May 2008, Emily had the wonderful opportunity of telling the story of Christian Banuelos, a Make-A-Wish child from California whose only wish was to storm chase. Christian came to Lubbock, and even though he didn’t see a tornado, he did get to storm chase with the experts.

Recently, Emily’s television career went international after her boyfriend, Matt, crashed her morning show and proposed to her live on the air. You might know Matt Laubhan. He’s the chief meteorologist on KLBK and her old partner in crime on “Good Morning Lubbock,” and after dating for two years, Matt popped the question. And even though he’s a Kansas Jayhawk, Emily said “yes!!” and word of the proposal spread like wildfire. Emily and Matt appeared on Good Morning America, Inside Edition, YouTube, the front page of Yahoo, several local television stations around the country and the world. They also appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show, Sunrise News in Sydney, Australia, and two shows in Japan.

When she's not working, she enjoys working out, cooking, watching old movies, and hanging out with her hubby, Matt. She also loves to nap with her two kitties, Slider (who has orange hair like his mom) and Beamer (who is somewhat pear-shaped because he eats too much and snores).
