 University Medical Center, since its opening on February 1, 1978, has been in the forefront of medical care
delivery not only for Lubbock but for the region. With a number of firsts in the region, UMC offers many
one-of-a-kind services:
- UMC Children's Hospital was the first to have a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with Neonatal ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation).
- UMC has the only Level
I Trauma Center in the region. The Timothy J. Harnar Burn Center (the region's only burn center) and the
internationally recognized Institute for Pain Management.
- The Southwest Cancer Treatment And Research Center
offers first rate cancer care right here at home. Through their partnership with Texas Tech, UMC offers leading
edge research and technology, including a number of nationally recognized clinical trials in breast and prostate cancer.
