Reported by: Danielle Todesco Thursday, Apr 3, 2008 @06:36pm CDT With diesel prices getting close to $4.00 dollars a gallon, volunteer fire departments are feeling the pinch. Firefighters in West Carlisle say they have to fill up their trucks about twice a week...and their ambulance three times or more. Each time, they say their bill reaches the hundred dollar mark. Now, Fire Captain Ryan Dunn says their budget was never meant to cover these high prices. So to get more money to keep operating, they plan to meet with the County Commissioners to discuss an increase in budget. "I hope we can meet with them. And that's what the plan is...is to meet with them to see if we can discuss the situation because of the gas prices rising all the time and it just seems never to cease." Until then, they're trying to pick up extra work for more funding. |
