John W. Leonard III - District 5
John W. Leonard III was elected to
serve on the Lubbock City Council as the District 5
Representative on May 13, 2006. Located in southwest
Lubbock, District 5 has a population of 33,364 (82.0
percent Anglo, 11.7 percent Hispanic, and 3.1
percent African-American).
Family Life
John graduated from Bryan High School in 1981 and
received a Bachelor of Science degree from Abilene
Christian University in 1986. He has two children, John Paul and
Sarah.
Professional Life
John is currently an apartment owner/operator. Prior
to 1992, he was in the grocery business for 15
years. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for
the Lubbock Apartment Association, Texas Apartment
Association, and the Lubbock-Crosby County Community
Justice Council.
Community Activities
John serves on several committees, including the
Tech Housing Fair, LubbockApartments.com, Community
Justice Council and several
legislative committees. He is a member of the
Lubbock Rotary Club and has been active in the Youth Football League
and Lubbock Girls
Basketball. He has also served on the Lubbock Water
Rate Review Committee. In his spare time, John enjoys the
Lubbock Symphony Orchestra, live theater, boating,
hiking, fishing, and auto restoration.
