Texas Governor Rick Perry has asked the President for a disaster declaration to help with recovery efforts.

And as Dolly continues to pound the coast, a few folks from Lubbock are also doing their part to help.

Emergency crews in Lubbock prepare year-round in case of a natural disaster and were ready when Hurricane Dolly hit.

Lubbock's Hazardous Incident Management Team has been sent to the coast.

Four members of the team are stationed outside Brownsville and they're managing a point-of-distribution to give folks water and ice.

Mark Ethridge from the Lubbock Fire Department says Lubbock's team is well ahead of other state organizations.

He says, "We're really fortunate here in Lubbock to have the training and experience that's needed in other parts of the state, so we can go help them when we're not affected."

Ethridge expects even more members of the 19 person team to be deployed to the coast.

They'll likely be there through the end of the month.
