Lubbock PD Sees Increased Applications

Lubbock PD is seeing an increase in the number of applications.The rise in interest is significant because other West Texas cities are seeing a decline.
Chief Tim Vasquez of San Angelo said his department is having a tough time holding onto recruits. many leave after the first year for cities that offer higher pay raises and benefits.
Captain Greg Stevens of Lubbock PD said the increased interest in LPD is due to the amount of advertisement LPD has generated and the department's willingness to invest in the officers.
"Our compensation package, as far as pay benefits and all of that go, are extremely competitive," said Captain Greg Stevens.
LPD is one of the few departments that in the area that supply an officer with all of his or her equipment and also give a clothing and equipment allowance.
Stevens said often recruits who look at Lubbock as a jumping point often stay because of the benefits.
