ATHENS, Ga. - It seemed as if the rain was Raony Carvalho and Gonzalo Escobar's biggest enemy on Monday at the McGill Tennis Center.

The No. 18 Texas Tech duo fell 7-6, 6-3 to the nation's No. 1 tandem from Ohio State -- Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola -- in the NCAA Men's Doubles Championship final. The match started outside and was moved inside when the rain came.
Carvalho and Escobar end the season 14-2 after teaming up to be doubles partners on March 10. Ironically, both of the Red Raiders' losses were to top eight teams indoors.
"We got a bad break with the rain. I think going indoors hurt us," said Red Raider head coach Tim Siegel. "Ohio State is an indoor team and they raised the level enough to win.
"Congratulations to them. They are the No. Team in the country and they deserve to win."
Buchanan and Rola finish the season 36-4 as a doubles tandem.
"I wanted this for (Carvalho and Escobar) and for Texas Tech," added Siegel. "It has been a great week and great year. These are the two best careers in Texas Tech history. It is the best Texas Tech has ever had."
Escobar closes out his senior season with a school record in single-season singles wins (31), career singles wins (99) and career doubles wins (82). He is a 2012 ITA All-American in singles and doubles and recorded the best finishes ever for Texas Tech at the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. He finished in the Sweet Sixteen at the singles event. He also is a two-time ITA Texas regional Champion and a three-time All-Big 12 singles honoree and a 2012 All-Big 12 doubles honoree
Carvalho closes out his career with the second-most career wins in singles (95) and doubles (72). He was Texas Tech first All-American in 2010 in singles and a 2012 All-American in doubles. Carvalho is the first Red Raider to earn All-Big 12 honors in singles and doubles for four straight years. He also has the highest career winning percentage in program history.
