The mortgage crisis has affected many communities across the county, but Lubbocks housing market is holding steady. Area realtors say the housing market in Lubbock is well above national numbers. In May, home values dropped by nearly 16 percent. But Lubbock realtors continue to see a steady number of buyers in the summer months. Shawnee Clay is a partner with the Real Estate Company and says theres no reason to stay out of the market right now. "Theres just not any reason not to sell your property, unless you know that youve been in it such a short time that you would come up being upside down in it. You just need to keep it a little longer," says Clay. She also believes the best way to make money is to invest it into your home. She says those whove lived in their homes for a long time, but now want to sell should have no problem making money through their sale.
