Your wait times in emergency rooms across Lubbock could be much shorter very soon.
Both University Medical Center and Covenant Medical Center are expanding their emergency rooms.
Both hospitals have seen a dramatic increase in the number of ER visits in recent years.
So UMC is renovating and expanding its current ER, while Covenant is constructing a "stand-alone" emergency facility at 98th and Slide.
UMC's Greg Bruce says expanding the ER is necessary to provide patient convenience.
He says, "We want to minimize the amount of time people wait, get them into areas where they can be taken care of as quickly as possible."
Both projects should be finished by the end of next year.
