Nichols was shot by Officer Norris Roberson after, police say, Nichols started charging officers with a knife in his hand.
KAMC News has learned that Nichols had been arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault less than a week before Monday night's incident.
A police report from LPD shows Nichols was arrested Thursday, June 14th, after he got in a fight with a woman at his apartment at 4919 5th St. and stabbed her.
According to the police report, Nichols cut the woman on her arms, leg and wrist. The report also says Nichols threatened to kill the woman and himself during that incident.
A booking sheet obtained from the Lubbock County Jail shows Nichols was released on $18,000 bond in that incident.
We spoke with Nichols' sister on Tuesday afternoon. She declined to speak on camera, but did say her brother had a long-running problem with alcohol.
She said she had been worried that something would go wrong if he didn't get himself cleaned up but, she said, she didn't expect an incident like what happened Monday.
