Al White with the Lubbock Veterans of Foreign Wars post said people drop old, damaged and unwanted American flags off at his post everyday.
He told KLBK News the proper way to dispose of the flag is a burning ceremony.
Due to the weather and burn bans, White said he wasn't able to hold a ceremony for months, causing more than 3,000 old flags to pile up.
Thursday White finally got to get rid of all the damaged flags he had.
But he wants people to keep them coming because he says it shows respect.
"A lot of blood has been shed just because of that flag and that flag represents our unity," White said.
If you have an American flag you need to get rid of, White said do not throw it in the trash.
Drop it off at his post at 501 County Road 7300 or call 747-2668 and he will take care of it properly.
