A farming accident claimed the life of a Lubbock man, with ties to local leadership.

Police say a piece of heavy machinery fell on a man around 11:00 Monday morning, killing him.

Late Monday afternoon, police identified the victim as Steve Jones, 59.

He's the husband of Lubbock County Commissioner, Patti Jones.

Many county officials, including Lubbock County Sheriff, Kelly Rowe, were on the scene as police continued to investigate, but no other details were released about what happened.

Steve and Patti Jones had been married for more than 35 years.

Together, the couple has two sons.
