"I don't think we need to cause panic but to be concerned yes we always need to be concerned," said Robertson.
Robertson said more police officers are necessary to ensure the citizen's safety.
"We need more feet on the street. Our police men are our first line of defense, it's very concerning that these murders are taking place and the only way to stop that is a good police force."
And Robertson added that the force is short by 45 officers.
"We truly need to get our police department up to the 2 per thousand level that is recommended," said Robertson.
As police continue to investigate the murders of Travondrick Ward and Dr. Joseph Sonnier, Robertson believes Lubbock is safe.
"I don't think people need to be fearful of being in their home, they don't need to be fearful of going to the grocery store," said Robertson.
