"It's going to be a great facility for the city of Lubbock, not only Lubbock ISD but the city of Lubbock," said LISD Assistant Superintendent Berhl Robertson.

The new look of Lowrey Field at Plains Capital Bank Park is starting to take shape, but as the football season kicks up there is still plenty construction left to do.

"There are going to be some differences, and we certainly ask for families to be patient with us," Robertson said. "We think we have a good plan for getting people in and out, and from their perspective we want them to know that we are ready and it's very, very safe."

LIDS said construction for the renovations is on schedule and as planned will not be finished until the fall of 2013. Meanwhile, the field will be fully functional this season.

Estacado High School head coach Danny Servance and the Matadors will be the first team to break in the new park Thursday night.

"We are really excited about the opportunity to play on Thursday and being the first group to play in the new Plains Capitol Bank Park at Lowery Field," Servance said.

And with the new look and the construction, Servance said it will be like playing on any other field, and he is not worried about distractions.

"It's still 50 yards wide and 100 in length so I think they'll be ok."

The renovations are part of the $18 million project, and Berhl Roberston said it is an effort to get Lubbock up to speed as one of the premiere facilities in this part of the state.

"We are so, so thankful to the community for supporting us in this," Roberston said. "I think it's going to be something we are very, very proud of and bring some revenue into Lubbock."
