The forensic work done at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center is now going back under Lubbock County Control.
That's because the Tech Health Sciences Center has decided to end its contract to operate the Lubbock County Medical Examiner's Office.
The announcement comes after controversy surrounding cheif medical examiner, Dr. Thomas Beaver's, temporary license.
County Commissioner Bill McCay says Tech's decision will place a burden on Lubbock County taxpayers.
He says, "When we have to take over that opeartion the cost is going to go up because we aren't going to have, by the nature of our business, we're not going to have those kinds of resources, so we'll have to pay for those kinds of resources and expertise."
McCay says the Health Sciences Center will continue to operate the Medical Examiner's Office through September 2009.
