Jones AT&T Stadium to Expand

The new football season is just a few weeks away, but it's the last season for Jones AT&T Stadium as it stands today.
Texas Tech announced a $25-million dollar expansion earlier today. Construction will start after this season, and finish by the 2010 season.
The renovation will add the same Spanish Renaissance style as the west side, plus it will add 20 new suites and 500 club seats.
That will take the current capacity of almost 53,000 and add at least a thousand more seats for Tech football fans.
Compared to other Big 12 Schools, that’s about right in the middle in terms of size.
Head coach Mike Leach says the expansion couldn't come at a better time for his team.
Mike Leach, Red Raider Head Coach: “Revenue for football is at an all time high. Season tickets sold out faster than they ever have in the past. In combination with the administration and our fans, I think it's a great manifestation of the direction of Texas Tech."
Tech has already raised $19 million of the $25 million needed. That money has come from private donations and AT&T. They still need another $6 million for the project to be completed.
This won’t be the last phase of renovation – Texas Tech officials say the next phase will be the north end of the stadium.
