Emergency crews rushed to a head on collision in west Lubbock county.

Crews responded to the scene on Highway 114 west of Research Blvd. just before 4:30 Thursday afternoon.

The head-on collision was between two passenger cars on Highway 114.

DPS Troopers say the driver of a car headed east-bound swerved into the lane of a driver heading west-bound.

The speed limit on that stretch of road is 60 miles per hour.

The wreck shut down traffic on the busy highway for at least an hour and caused at least one other accident.

A five-care pile-up happened just a mile west of the first crash around 5:30 p.m. A DPS Trooper on the scene said the second crash was caused by someone failing to slow down or stop for traffic caused by the first crash.
