Updated: September 25, 2012
Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 3700 block of 23rd St. Tuesday evening.

The fire broke out around 8:00 p.m. and appeared to be contained mostly to the garage.

The family was able to escape but was not able to grab their dog. Firefighters spent several minutes searching for the family's pet before it was located and brought out to safety.

At this time, there's no word on how the fire started.
