The
Texas Tech women's golf team debuted in the top spot of the first
Golfstat top 25 poll of the season Wednesday, earning the Lady Raiders
their highest ranking in program history.
The
ranking comes on the heels of a 27-stroke victory at the season-opening
Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Colorado where the Lady Raiders finished with
their second-largest
margin of victory in school history.
"This
is a huge step for our program and something that our team has been
working towards for a long time," fourth-year head coach JoJo Robertson
said. "We have a
great group of players this year and I'm fortunate to work with one of
the best assistants in the country. I'm excited about what lies ahead."
The
Lady Raiders' victory to start the year marked the fifth for Texas Tech
under Robertson, who has led the program to the postseason in each of
her first three seasons.
Kim Kaufman finished second at the event to lead three players in the
top five individuals, joining Gabby Dominguez in third place and Beverly
Mendoza in fourth.
Washington,
Duke, Florida, and Southern California rounded out the top five of the
poll that also featured three other Big 12 schools in No. 14 Oklahoma
State, No.
16 Texas, and No. 22 Iowa State.
Texas
Tech continues its fall campaign early next week when the Lady Raiders
tee off at Windy City Collegiate in Golf, Ill. The two-day, 54-hole
tournament begins
Monday at the Glen View Golf Club.
