Tech
is set to host its Big 12 home opener with a pair of conference rivals
visiting the John Walker Soccer Complex this weekend. The Red Raiders
will open the weekend with a Friday night showdown against Oklahoma at 7
p.m. before hosting Iowa State for a Sunday
afternoon match at 1 p.m.
The
Red Raiders will certainly look to
take advantage of their current home stand as they are a perfect 4-0
this season in games played at the John Walker Soccer Complex. Tech has
outscored opponents at home by a significant margin of 10-1 en route to
that perfect 4-0 mark on its home field.
Meanwhile, the Red Raiders enter this
weekend as winners of four-straight Big 12 home openers and are 4-1 during the Tom Stone Era
dating back to 2007.
Oklahoma enters Friday night having not
won a game in Lubbock since the 2006, while the Cylcones have not defeated Tech at the John Walker Soccer Complex since 2005.
Texas Tech is led offensively by three
Red Raiders who have combined for 16 goals this season. The scoring trio includes freshman Janine
Beckie (7 goals), sophomore Paige
Strahan (5 goals) and junior Jessica
Fuston (4 goals). Beckie and Fuston have both been honored by the Big 12 as Players of
the Week this season, while Strahan became the first Red Raiders to score in three consecutive matches since 2010.
The Red Raiders are coming off of a 5-0
shutout victory over New Mexico State on Sunday. Strahan netted two goals in the victory to bring her season total to five.
Texas
Tech, which ranked No. 13 nationally
in home attendance during the 2011 season, has hosted seven-straight
Friday night matches with over 1,000 in attendance at the John Walker
Soccer Complex.
