LISD Teachers Get 3% Pay Raise

By: Julie Musgrave
Updated: August 14, 2008

The Lubbock School District is dipping into it's savings, and pulling out a 3% raise for it's teachers.

Superintendent Wayne Havens says this year's budget is the tightest he's ever worked with, but the board managed to find a way to meet all the districts' needs including giving the faculty a bit extra.

Havens says they're dipping into their reserves to cover the expense of the raises.  So this won’t affect any tax payers because there won’t need to be any tax hikes.

Havens says officials felt they needed to do this to help their employees through these hard economic times.

The entire LISD budget is $187.2 million.
