A 21-year-old man was rushed to UMC Wednesday night after the moped he was riding was hit by a car on 4th and Flint.

Lubbock Police say the moped was heading west on 4th St. when the small passenger car attempted to turn south off of 4th. That's when the two collided.

The accident happened just after 8:00 p.m. Investigators with LPD's Accident Investigations division were on scene just before 9:00.

The AI division is usually called out when an accident may lead to a fatality.

The driver of the moped was in critical condition at UMC as of Wednesday night.

Westbound traffic was diverted off 4th St. onto Indiana for several hours as police investigated the crash.
