LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas
Tech
will conclude its season long four-match homestand Friday night with a
Big 12 showdown against No. 25 Baylor at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
First kick for the primetime matchup is set for 7 p.m. as the Red
Raiders will look for their second victory
over a top-25 team this season.
Texas Tech (10-3-0, 2-1 Big 12) owns a
3-1-1 advantage in the series under sixth-year head coach Tom Stone, while
the Bears have not won a game in Lubbock since the 2004 season.
Texas
Tech is coming off a sweep of Big
12 opponents as they defeated both Oklahoma and Iowa State in home
matches last weekend. With the pair of wins, the Red Raiders improved to
a perfect 6-0 in home games this season.
Sophomore Paige
Strahan led
the way scoring two goals in the pair of games, including her fourth
game-winner
of the season in Sunday's 2-1 victory over the Cyclones. With the
impressive performance Strahan extended her scoring streak to five games
which marks the longest by a Red Raider since the 2009 season. The
Odessa, Texas native was later named Big 12 Offensive
Player of the Week by the league on Tuesday.
Baylor
will mark the first ranked team
to enter the John Walker Soccer Complex during the 2012 season as the
Bears are 10-1-2 overall this year with a 1-0-1 mark in conference play.
The
Bears are led by offensively by senior
Dana Larsen who has netted seven goals this season. Baylor will bring
with it a high-powered offense as the Bears rank tops in the Big 12 in
all five offensive categories averaging 2.62 goals per game while having
taken an even 300 shots on the year.
The Red Raiders are off to their best
start in program history through 13 games and are outscoring opponents 14-3 in home matches this season.
