Quilting Club Needs Funding to Continue Supporting Troops
Recent violence in Afghanistan has left "Quilts of Valor" -a national quilting foundation-in need of more quilts for wounded troops. This month they are asking for 420 quilts from across the United States. KLBK's Michaela MacDonald spoke with local quilters who need your help to make a difference.

"We are out of funds. They aren't cheap to make"
In fact each quilt costs about $100 to make, but the Thursday Threaders of the South Plains Quilters Guild are used to making them for much less.
"We've bought our fabric half price we have bought batting on half price. People have donated. We have given all our time and like I said the quilting is free, the postage is free so we have done all of this for around a $1000 and normally it would have cost several thousand," said Dawn Berry. "We have been very careful with our money and I can assure you anyone that donates our money will be stretched."
They call it quilts of valor. These women are part of a national organization that sends patriotic quilts to soldiers wounded overseas. But now they're at a standstill because they have run out of money for materials.
Berry said, "We would like enough money to finish the quilts that we have started plus to keep this an on going project."
They're counting on the people of Lubbock to help them reach their goal.
"We thought it would really be nice for the people of Lubbock, Texas to send it to our soldiers to tell them that they are appreciated and we do support them."

money or fabric. They have set up an account for donations at Plains Capital
Bank under the name Chaparral Quilters Guild/ Quilts of Valor. Donations are
also tax deductible.
