Have you checked the Lubbock Police Department Facebook page lately?

Maybe you should.

Last night the department posted mug shots and names of men who have been arrested for soliciting prostitution.

"I wouldn't say its a major problem and I wouldn't say that we have more or less than anybody else or that numbers have changed or anything," Stewart said. "I would say that it is present and it is something that is in Lubbock."

The pictures have been causing quite a stir-getting almost 50 likes on Facebook.

Many users commented in support of the plan.

Others mentioned which of the men they recognize.

A local lawyer is on the list of those arrested.

"Its just another warning and hopefully a preventative measure to that person thinking maybe a little bit harder and longer before they partake in this kind of activity." Sergeant Jonathan Stewart said.

Dr. Elizabeth Trejos is an Assistant Professor at Texas Tech in the College of Human Sciences.

She says the plan is more than just a deterrent but a way to make people more aware of what's going on in our own backyard.

"I think it is important to raise consciousness in the population and in the community that this is really happening," Trejos said.

She says she is happy the police department is taking the first steps to helping fight this issue.

"That's the key is that we need to start doing something," Trejos said. "Even though it is just starting at the experimental level, it's important that we are doing it."
