The wait is over.
After months of delays,
Lubbock's newest movie theater opened its doors Friday.
Premiere Cinemas is on the
west side of the South Plains Mall.
The theater didn't open
until mid-morning, but as soon as it did, Glen and Inetta Reddell were first in
line at the box office.
"We were shopping at
Home Depot yesterday and I'm like 'Hunny, the theater has to be open, it has to
be open soon.' So we saw one of the managers and we said, 'So when are you guys
opening?' He says tomorrow (and) I say, 'Tomorrow? What time?' He says 11. I say,
'That's it, we're clearing everything off our schedules and we're going to be
there,'" Inetta said.
Premiere Cinemas has 16
screens and that includes the IMAX auditorium with a screen that's 70 feet
wide.
"We've got a Starbucks.
We've got two full service bars, both offer a full menu of gourmet pizzas,
gourmet burgers, quesadillas, chicken strips, salad," theater manager, Rudy
Leal, said.
Leal added guests don't have
to buy a movie ticket to grab a bite to eat in the restaurant or a drink in the
theater's bars.
It's those conveniences that
drew the Reddell's in.
"It's just clean and
the openness, you know looking forward to all the other amenities that it
has," Inetta said.
A matinee show is just $6.25
for adults and $9.00 for an evening show.
Kids and seniors are $6.00
all the time.
If you want to see an IMAX
movie, you'll have to pay a little more.
Adults will have to shell out
$15.00 and kids are $12.00.
For the next two weeks, a portion of the proceeds from the theater's food sales will be donated to Lubbock's Big Brother Big Sister organization.
