LPD Investigating Break-In at Federal Building

By: Nick Ochsner
Updated: October 28, 2012
A broken window prompted LPD and federal agents to clear the Mahon Federal Building with assault rifles and K-9s Sunday night.

Officers were called to the building just after 6:00 Sunday night after someone spotted a broken window on the south east side of the building.

More than a dozen officers responded, staking out positions on every corner around the building for a two-block radius, each with an assault rifle.

Officers and federal agents with the FBI and Border Patrol made entry into the building to search for suspects who may have been inside but did not find anyone.

Police did find a blood trail near the broken window.

We're told the broken window did not trip any security alarms and it does not look like anything has been taken.

Representatives from the various federal agencies whose offices are housed in the building were called in Sunday night to inspect the damage and make sure nothing had been taken.

LPD says this case will be processed just like any other break-in. A federal agent on scene Sunday night referred all questions to an FBI spokeswoman in Dallas.
