LISD Invites Mr. Mojo to Help Battle Bullying

He is a special visitor with a powerful message for Lubbock students.
"I've been speaking on leadership for years," Brown said. "One of the things that students always tell me is how can we step up to bullying what can we do? So I wanted to create a program specifically for students and go here are the steps we take."
Travis Brown travels the country as Mr. Mojo, teaching students how to be leaders in the battle against bullying.
"Different in the way we look, feel, talk, act," Brown said. "So part of the message is about realizing that you can accept and respect people that are different than you are and embrace everybody and that's what leaders have to do."
Brown said he took his years of experience in business and leadership to build a program for students to take back to their schools
"Now I've built a program of what a school needs to do." Brown said. "Step by step by step from the administration, to district wide education and to student engagement. Herff Jones has sponsored that program and allows us to get into more schools across the country."
Over 350 students from around LISD participated in the assembly today at Monterrey High School.
Brown shared his 3 steps for students to use when they see someone who is being bullied: Step-In, Step-Up and Get Help.
Tamara Rose with Herff Jones, the company sponsoring Mr.Mojo, said they are focusing on the people who are most effected by bullying.
"Herff Jones is going to be interested in anything that can make a deeper impact in this community," Rose said. "This is where we live and we believe you've got to start with the students because they have a powerful voice."
Brown said it is the students that have made his first trip to Lubbock a memorable one.
"The students have been great," Brown said. "I think they've really embraced the message they're actually one of the best audiences I've had in a long time. So that's always fun and exciting for me to have a great audience that's connected, that's enthusiastic about this topic."
