1. Death Toll Reaches 51 in Superstorm Sandy's Wake
At least 51 people have been confirmed dead in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, many after getting hit by falling trees. Eighteen were reported dead in New York City.
2. 8M Without Power on East Coast Some 8 million people were still without power on the east coast Tuesday night. Nearly 4,000 utility workers from as far as California are expected to arrive in New York City this week to help restore power.
3. NYC Mayor 'Feels Very Good' About Crane Mayor Bloomberg said Tuesday that he "feels very good" about the status of a dangling crane hanging from a luxury high-rise building in Midtown Manhattan. The city shut off gas and steam lines beneath the street so that should the crane fall, a fire would not be started.
4. NYC Halloween Parade Cancelled New York City's annual Village Halloween Parade, which is normally attended by thousands of New Yorkers and tourists on Halloween, was canceled due to Sandy. It is the first time in 39 years that the parade has been canceled.
5. Sandy, by the Numbers Sandy by the numbers: it has been 124 years since bad weather caused financial markets to shut down. Water reached a record high level at Battery Park in Manhattan on Sunday night, rising to 13.88 feet. Netflix saw a 20 percent increase in video streaming on Oct. 29 compared to one week ago. New York University has canceled classes until Nov. 5.
