A high-speed chase involving a stolen motorcycle and a DPS Trooper ended in a crash Wednesday afternoon on Woodrow Road.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Woodrow and CR 2500.

DPS Troopers said the chase began around 4:15 p.m. when a trooper tried to stop a motorcycle traveling south on I-27. The motorcycle got off the interstate at 50th street and the trooper tried to pull him over at 50th St. and Ave. P, according to Cpl. John Gonzalez.

The driver of the motorcycle didn't stop and, instead, kept driving east before he got on Highway 84 and headed towards Slaton.

DPS has identified the driver as 27-year-old Marcus Thornton of New Jersey. Troopers said the motorcycle he was driving had been recorded as stolen by Lubbock Police.

Once the motorcycle got on Hwy 84, the DPS Trooper was not able to keep up with him, as speeds reached over 100 mph. The trooper saw Thornton exit on Woodrow Rd. and head west.

By the time the trooper caught up to Thornton, he had crashed in a cotton field.

Troopers say Thornton was ejected from the bike and landed about 100 feet away from the vehicle.

AeroCare was called to the scene. Thornton is said to be in critical but stable condition at UMC.
