Buckets of fried chicken for college and professional game days have been replaced by the smaller chicken wing. Wingstop manager Christina Johnson said Texas Tech game days mean a lot more customers.

"If it's a home game we get very impacted on home games. But when it's away it don't really impact us that much but we get busy but I prefer the home games here more because we get a lot of customers here."

On a week day the Wingstop on Slide Road sells a little over a thousand wings but that number skyrockets on a game day.

"Game days, on Saturdays, is like 5,000. It's just generally 5,000 by itself."

But the spike in numbers isn't just from people coming in to eat and watch the game. Wingstop also sells catering trays and party packs for families and big groups. Amanda Hernandez always buys a tray of wings on game day.

"Whenever Tech plays we usually order whatever party special they have but we order a bunch of wings."

It's not just the wings on the menu. Wingstop also sells drinks and sides that when added up give the store a boost in an economy where every dollar counts.

"My total over here I like to set 5,000. Lunch, they do 2,300 to 2,400 dollars at lunch by itself."
