Police are making strides in finding the escaped men, but tonight -- one mother continues to fear for her son's life.

Melody Carter of Hale Center wants one message made clear to her son... and that’s to turn himself in.

KAMC 28 News was the first to bring you the interview with 19-year-old Larry McClendon’s mother, who says she was told by police that because of her son’s escape the next time she sees him might be in a body bag.

Tonight, Ms. Carter continues her plea to her son.  She says he suffers from schizophrenia, and is worried about what his mental illness might do to him while on the run.

Police say they are encouraging the community to help find these men, but are warning you to be careful.

Chief Terry Timms, Hale Center Police:  “After somebody's escaped from prison, they're in the process of having felony charges pending, going to court having felony charges, possible long term encarceration, sometimes they get paranoid, you never know what they might do.”

Officials now say security cameras inside the jail were not working at the time, and that’s prompting some scrutiny from law enforcement officials.

It has also prompted the city to approve the installment of more cameras.
