Shoppers found ways to save money Thanksgiving shopping. They bought store brands instead of name brands to start and Eddie Owens of United Supermarkets said they saved by also buying the same products in a different form.

"You need to remember that frozen is cheaper than fresh and canned is cheaper than frozen. So the fresher the product the more you are going to have to pay for it."

According to an article from CNN Money the average Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people this year will be $49.48. That's just under $5.00 per person but you can lower that by using coupons and buying products on sale.

"Shop with the ad. Everything that you can possibly need for your Thanksgiving dinner is on sale right now. So use that weekly ad and make your lists before you come to the store."

Its not just what you bought but also how much, that can add up at the cash register.

"So you need to really be smart about how much you're preparing in advance so that you don't have to have a lot of food leftover that's going to go to waste ultimately."

Thanksgiving is all about sharing so another great way to save money was to let your guests bring a side dish or even the drinks.

"Another thing you can do is let your guests help with the preparation process. Everyone's always wanting to know what they can do to help. Take advantage of those opportunities so that the burden can kind of be shared around the table."
