Kids Give Back on Thanksgiving

"To turn around and serve other people really brings a sense of realization just how abundantly blessed we are. And it just brings joy in our personal lives to be able to turn around and give," said Chris Soselee.
Chris and his wife Michelle Soselee brought their four children to volunteer at the Salvation Army this morning.
"They were the ones that asked they said you know what can we go to the salvation army and serve, so because we had done it one other year before. They asked and they are probably the motivating factor for us being here and we are so grateful for that," said Michelle.
"This is our first time to be greeters so but its fun and its interesting," said their kids.
But the Soslee kids weren't the only ones helping out at the Salvation Army on Thanksgiving. Over 200 people showed up to volunteer and many of those families brought children.
Salvation Army Major Tom Grider says he is grateful for all of the volunteers from prep to clean up. He says he thinks this time is especially valuable for children.
"I'm happy to see the younger crowd here being involved. Because they dont see it that often. You hear about it and you see it on tv news. They get a lot of sometimes bad info on those who are homeless. They can come here today and see that they are human beings. They are real, genuine, that they are just like them," said Grider.
The Soselees say they're hoping this day of service teaches their children to make volunteering a life-long habit.
"I hope they learn to look outside themselves to understand that we are called to serve and to live that out in their lives. As well as many other families here have brought their kids and I think that's why we do this we want to teach our kids to serve," said Michelle Soselee.
