Places for roughly 800 people have been prepared at the City Bank Coliseum.
"With all the flooding that is going to occur in East Texas and Louisiana, we could have a lot of people that can't go back to their homes," said Kevin Overstreet, Lubbock's head of Emergency Services. "We're on standby waiting to see what the state wants to do."
Lubbock was supposed to receive 500 people from New Orleans, but plans were changed once Gustav reduced to a category 2 hurricane.
Lubbock has allocated $500,000 towards relief efforts. Less than $10,000 has been spent so far.
