Christmas Tree Farm Hopes To Bring Tradition To West Texas

Christmas is less than a month away and if you haven't already picked out that perfect tree, one West Texas farm has you covered.
Double Shovel Christmas Tree Farm is the only Christmas tree farm in the Texas Panhandle and is now open for business.
"March of 2009, we planted our first field of trees," Jan Webb said.
Webb owns the Double Shovel farm in Post.
She said her family planted the first 550 trees by hand more than three years ago, with just two shovels.
That's how the farm got its name.
Over the years, they've planted more than 2,500 Afghan pines, but extreme heat and extreme drought took its toll on some of the trees.
"It is hard work," Webb said.
The strong survived and the trees are finally big enough to sell.
Webb said the trees range in price from $30 to $60 each, depending on the size.
"You get your kids out in fresh air and the sunshine and you walk up and down the fields and they discuss and they talk and they laugh and they play. It just takes on a different feel to come to a Christmas tree farm and cut one down," she said.
If you want to go cut down your own Christmas tree, the Double Shovel farm is open every weekend from now until Christmas Eve.
The farm is located on Highway 84 in Post.
Friday: 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Saturday: 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Sunday: 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
The Double Shovel farm is also open during the week, by appointment only.
