"This is just like my birthday," said Lee Sepeda, one of the children today.

Lubbock Police officers teamed up with Big Brothers Big Sisters to take dozens of area kids shopping, out to eat, and for bowling and games at Main Event.

Officer Ed Day has helped organized the Santa Cops project for 5 years now.

"I think it makes a very positive impact for them to be able to have a Christmas they probably otherwise wouldn't have," Day said. "We do this simply because there's a lot of kids out there that don't have the opportunity to have a good Christmas. They're far less fortunate than some of the others. This is our chance to help them out and give back."

The group taxied about town today, sirens blaring.

"We go code 3 and the kids are pretty much the ones operating the lights and the sirens," said Day.

At the end of the day everyone gathered at Yates Flooring Center for a Christmas story and had cookies and hot chocolate.

For the big finale, each child was presented with a new bike.

"It's worth it though because when we see these kids and being able to help them out and seeing their faces when they get their presents," said Day.

Sepeda, who was overjoyed, could not help but express his gratitude.

"Thank you," Sepeda said. "Thank you for taking all the Big Brother Big Sister kids to where ever we wanted to go."
