The Texas Tech football team knew they were going to a bowl game, it was just a matter of when and where.
And now, all of the uncertainty is gone. The anticipation is over.
The Red Raiders are heading to the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas to play Minnesota Dec. 28 at 8 p.m. at Reliant Stadium in Houston.
Texas Tech finished the season 7-5 and 4-5 in Big 12 play. The Gophers bring a 6-6 record and only two wins in the Big 10 Conference into the matchup.
The last time the teams met was also in the postseason - the 2006 Insight Bowl. The Red Raiders won 44-41 in thrilling overtime fashion. Texas Tech erased a 38-7 halftime deficit to complete the historic comeback.
This year's tilt will feature two teams who have struggled down the stretch. The Red Raiders have lost four of their last five games, while Minnesota dropped their final two to end the regular season.
In 2003, Texas Tech played in the same bowl game - then known as the Houston Bowl - and beat Navy 38-14.
