Car Accident Kills One, Injures Another

A well known family is mourning the death of one daughter and the injuries of their other daughter after a tragic crash today.
Kelsey and Kayla Vines were involved in the crash at
They are the twin daughter’s of Lubbock Cooper Superintendent Thom Vines.
Officials tell us the accident happened around Tuesday afternoon, when a dump truck going southbound collided with the girls’ in their Grand Am going northbound.
Officials are investigating the actual cause of the crash, but say they believe there was some mechanical failure on the dump truck that could’ve caused it to go into the northbound lane.
Kelsey was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kayla was airlifted to Covenant, but is doing fine tonight and only suffered minor injuries.
People that knew the Lubbock Cooper Seniors say both were well-known in the community, and both basketball stars.
Folks at the scene tell us several Cooper athletic events were canceled tonight in rememberance of Kelsey, and in support of her twin sister Kayla.
