The close community of Lubbock Cooper Independent School District continues to grieve tonight, just a day after one of their students was killed in a car accident.

18-year-old Kelsey Vines was killed after her car collided with a tractor trailer on Indiana Avenue.

Her twin sister, Kayla, was also in the car.

She escaped with only minor injuries and was released from Covenant Medical Center earlier today.

The Director of Guidance for Lubbock-Cooper says counselors are doing their best to help all those who knew Kelsey.

"We've tried to be attentive to what the student needs.  We're also helping the teachers.  If the teachers need to step out, we'll send someone to the classroom because, again, the impact of this tragedy has been immense," Director of Guidance Pam Brown says.

Brown says counselors from surrounding school districts will be at Lubbock-Cooper High School for the next few days to help students and teachers.
