Tips for A Winter Lawn

By: Monica Yantosh
Updated: December 5, 2012
Dylan Burns with Star Landscape gave these tips for getting your lawn ready for winter:

- Give it a final mow, to about 2 inches.  This is better for your lawn than leaving it long.
- Don't stop watering -- water about once a week, for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Pick up your leaves -- leaving them on the grass can cause bacteria to grow in the roots of the grass.
- Consider getting a winter fertilizer to keep it healthy.
- Don't cover your shrubs, unless one is struggling or may already have a disease.
- Move any potted plants indoors that shouldn't be out in the cold.
