The close community of Lubbock Cooper ISD continues to grieve tonight just a day after one of their students was killed in a car accident.

18-year-old Kelsey Vines was killed after her car collided with an asphalt dumptruck on Indiana Avenue.  Her twin sister, Kayla, was also in the car.  She made it out with only minor injuries and was relased from Covenant Wednesday.  The Director of Guidance for Lubbock-Cooper says counselors are doing their best to help all those who knew Kelsey.  And she adds that everyone at Cooper is feeling the loss of such a great girl.

"It's so tragic.  I was talking earlier with a group of cafeteria workers because its going to be a hard day for them too and one of the ladies said even the sky is sad and that just really touched me because it's true."

All of Cooper's events this week have been cancelled.  Meanwhile, counselors from all over the area have come to Cooper to help the students and faculty.  DPS tells us they're investigating a mechanical failure as a possible cause for the truck to veer over, but the investigation is still ongoing.
