According to city officials, more graffiti is popping up around town.

Code enforcement officials said they have cleaned up more than 1,400 graffiti since May.

Popular areas include overpasses, businesses and some residential areas. Most of the sights are concentrated around the center of the city.

The City of Lubbock will clean up the graffiti free of charge.

According to Stuart Walker, the head of Lubbock's code enforcement department, the average spent per year is the equivalent of a city worker's salary and benefits for an entire year.

"Anywhere and everywhere we get a request to remove it, we'll do the best we can," said Walker.

Walker siad despite the cost, it is best to remove the graffiti so it doesn't encourage further vandalism.

Code enforcement officers often have juvenile offenders assist in removing graffiti for community service hours.
