Kirby Hocutt spent Tuesday jetting
all around the country to find a new head coach as soon as possible.
He went to Houston
to talk to Kingsbury, then to South Carolina
to talk to Chad Morris, and then capped off the day with a trip to Nashville to talk to
Jerry Gray.
All of the candidates in the
running, Kliff Kingsbury, Art Briles, Chad Morris and Jerry Gray all have an
understanding of West Texas.
Art Briles graduated from Texas Tech,
and when he was hired at Baylor he wanted to leave the door open for a move to
Texas Tech, which Baylor denied. So we'll
see if his mind has changed after he built what he has at Baylor.
Kliff's
West Texas ties are obvious, the former Texas
Tech Quarterback set numerous records at Texas Tech, and he is one of the
hottest young names in the coaching business, after what he did with the Aggies
this year.
And then Chad Morris, Graduated from
Texas A&M, but spent 16 years coaching high school football in the State of
Texas, winning
coach of the year 11 of those 16 years.
And Then Jerry Gray emerged this afternoon. Gray, a defensive coordinator in the NFL, graduated from Estacado high school and played defensive back at the University of Texas.
