"So the 12 days prior to the Christmas holiday we send out a different fun treat that they can look forward to each day leading up to the holiday."
Recipients of Meals on Wheels lunches got a special treat during the 12 days of Christmas and this year that included their meal being delivered by the Texas Tech basketball team. Coach Chris Walker said his team is more than happy to help.
"It just means a lot to us to be a part of the moral fabric of Lubbock and I think that's important if we want people to come out and support us and spend their hard earned dollars it's the least we can do and its good for me to show these guys how blessed they are and how special they are to have the opportunity to go out and spread a little sunshine today."
While the Meal on Wheels recipients got the treat the people delivering the holiday goods also got something in return.
"We love it. Last year we did 12 days of Christmas and Meals on Wheels was the best one by far because seeing the people smile, they just came to the door and were surprised to even see us so it was great."
Each day brought something different during the 12 Days of Christmas but every gift was appreciated.
"Some of the items are just special little extras, some of them are very practical items like our holiday glow day which will be a bag of toiletries. So some of them are things they really need and some of them are just things to brighten their holiday."
