LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech junior QB Graham Harrell (Ennis, Texas) has to the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award, announced Tuesday by Maxwell Football Club president Ron Jaworski. The Maxwell Award is presented annually to the nations top collegiate football player.

While directing the nations top passing attack last season, Harrell produced the fourth-best sophomore season in NCAA history with 4,555 yards and 38 touchdown passes. Additionally, Harrell and the Red Raider offense orchestrated the greatest comeback in bowl history, erasing a 31-point deficit with 7:47 to play in the third quarter in the Insight Bowl win over Minnesota.
Harrell joins fellow Big 12 quarterbacks Chase Daniel (Missouri), Colt McCoy (Texas) and Stephen McGee (Texas A&M) and four other players from the Big 12 on the initial list of 64. Harrell is the first Texas Tech quarterback under Mike Leach named to the Maxwell Award preseason list.

Semifinalists for the award will be announced in early November and three finalists will be announced November 26.
The announcement of the 2005 Maxwell Award winner will be made during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show that will be broadcast on ESPN on December 6. The formal presentation will be made at the Maxwell Football Clubs Awards Dinner in March 2008 at the Harrahs Entertainment Complex in Atlantic City, N.J.
