"The last five or six days have kind of been a whirlwind, sometimes things happen, and sometimes they're a blessing in disguise, and I think that's probably what this will turn out to be," said Chancellor Hance. "Kliff Kingsbury is the right guy for us, and I'm very proud of him."
Chancellor Hance said he's excited for Kingsbury to start leading the Red Raiders.
"You know, I think he's going to do a great job, he has a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of charisma, I think he'll excite the players and I think he's just going to be a lot of fun," said Chancellor Hance.
Chancellor Hance, along with Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt visited Kingsbury earlier this week to offer him the job, and Hance said it was a quick decision for Kingsbury.
"He was quick on it, and truly wanted it and he loves Texas Tech," said Chancellor Hance. "We had 2 or 3 hours together, and just discussed everything and when we offered him the job, it was kind of like, 'yes.'"
For Chancellor Hance, one standout quality in Kingsbury is his status as an alum and former Red Raider, which Hance thinks will help lead the team.
"I think he'll do an outstanding job for Texas Tech," said Chancellor Hance, "I'm thrilled to death that he's back and I think it's going to be a great day for Texas Tech that we've got some body who wants to be here, and he wants to be here."
Chancellor Hance said he's proud of Kingsbury. "He's a good person, I've known him forever, I mean they don't come any better than Kliff Kingsbury," said Chancellor Hance.
While Chancellor Hance says he's always a Red Raider fan, no matter the coach, he's Kingsbury's number one fan. "I'm really for Kliff Kingsbury, he's my favorite," said Hance.
At Thursday's Board of Regents Meeting, the board approved more seats to be built inside the Jones AT&T Stadium, and Chancellor Hance says he hopes all the seats are full of fans next season.
