"Dust, absolutely a problem."

With wind speeds reaching up to 45 miles per hour the dust and pollen in Lubbock were a big problem for people with allergies. Dr. Goutam Shome recommends avoiding being outside of you can.

"When the wind speed is so high you can not be absolutely fool proof. What you can do is minimize your time out in the environment."

If you did have to go outside there were preventative measures you could take to lessen your symptoms.

"If you have to go outside and spend some time there cover your mouth with a face mask. That is the least you can do. Medicate yourself appropriately using nasal spray, antihistamine, whatever your doctor prescribes."
But the wind stirring up that dust and pollen wasn't just making you cough and sneeze.

"Allergy symptoms typically affect the nose and sinuses but many times up to 50% of the patients will have eye symptoms. So when the wind speed is so high you're more likely to experience eye symptoms so those should be kept in mind too."
